Exterior

The front of the house facing west

View from the south east corner of the property

 The north side

This is the view of the kitchen and maids bedroom. There are several of these newer windows that don't match the original ones. We are hoping to find replacements that match the rest of the house! If you look closely you can see the line where the larger original windows were installed. We were told the downstairs had a bay window.

There are some badly deteriorated shingles that will need replacement. Luckily there's Construction Junction in our town. They sell recycled construction and architectural materials. I'm sure we can find what we need to restore the exterior of the house.

We plan to remove this porch and replace it with an open one. We plan to use the windows to make our greenhouse.

October-December 2015
We worked hard pulling down the termite infested front porch.

May 2016
We discovered this termite activity in December 2015 once we removed the old porch.

We hired someone to complete this structural repair

June 2016
New roof installation

Security Cameras
April 2017

Here are the pre fabricated birdhouses we bought and painted to hold our Canary security cameras

December 2017
Rotted clapboard repaired

June-September 2019
Replacement of shingles on gables, some window replacement, and new paint

Here are some renderings of what we wanted to go on the gables of the house.

Working out a pattern for the painted shingles

Joe starting the installation

The completed gable on the north side of the house.

The PVC gable decorations. They came in white, Pete painted the abacus balls. That highlight can be seen from ground level.

A few photos of the house primed, before the topcoat.

December 2019

Pete made these downspout brackets from sheet aluminum. If its windy enough they fly!

May 2020

We got this Haunted Mansion inspired address number sign from a vendor on Etsy.

October 2020
Pete and Joe worked on repairing the eaves on the side porch awning.

Rotten wood was removed from the existing eaves.

A replacement piece of wood was placed in the cavity before Pete re-shaped them with Bondo.

Our roofer returned to shingle the awning.

April 2021
The awning was pulling the clapboard from the house. Pete and Joe stabilized it with ratchet straps from the inside.

Temporary posts were installed to hold up the awning.

The old porch deck was removed.

The old concrete was removed

Cardboard Sonotubes were cut and buried. They serve as a mold to make concrete pillars.

Some of the reclaimed maple floorboards we got for free in Jersey City were used for the porch decking.

These columns are a combination of parts bought at Home Depot and random wood parts.

These beaded spandrels were purchased years ago, finally put to good use.

Pete got these old mahogany balusters from Joe.

May 2021

Pete added a bat under the spandrel.

A concrete foundation was poured for the foot of the staircase.

Joe suggested we scratch our initials into the concrete

June 2021
Porch stairs are complete.

August 2021
Pete bought these laser cut bats from Etsy.

September 2021

The paint job was started!

The eaves by the carport area were repaired.

March 2023
Painting of the side porch completed
