Basement

January 2014
(at inspection)

A view of the various things left behind

The rotted boiler

And the equally sad shape of the boiler vent pipe

An attempt to insulate

The mystery PVC pipe anchored into the earth

Leaky and rotting copper pipes

The owner turned on the water from the main right before inspection, bursting the pipes. We never found out if he was bring passive aggressive or is just a moron. The pipe shaped icicle in the photo above is quite remarkable!

We are grateful these are not structural walls!!

August 2014

The non structural walls removed

An ash pit for one of the chimneys, leading up to the old kitchen

These dead white spiders are everywhere.

A pan of the basement. The mans voice belongs to the exterminator who treated our house for against termites

September 2014
New support posts installed

A useless beam! Looks like a beaver got to it.

November 2014
We heard a family got foreclosed on in the 80s and poured concrete down the drainage pipes. Here is the proof!!

January 2015
Our old circuit breaker box...

.....and our new one!

March 2016

Excavating beneath the watery mystery PVC pipe

The clean out door under the living room chimney

An smash through attempt to vent out the furnace (?)

March 2018
The plumbers finished the hot water installation

Here are the new gas lines!

This is the repaired water line coming into the basement.

Our tankless hot water heater.

June 2018
We had the house structurally reinforced. The main beam was removed and replaced. The house was raised five inches.

Temporary columns installed.

Wood framing installed.

One of the main beams cut, ready to be removed.

Beam #1 down

Beam #2 down

Digging channels for the new footings.

Rebar installed in the channels.

Concrete curing in the channels.

Starting the lift

The house getting heavier!

Hammering the first 2x10 into place.

Triple beam sandwich complete!

The house is level!

Beams cemented into the foundation.

The posts secured to the concrete pad.

All work complete.

Basement stair repair

Sump pump installed

August 2021

Pete dug this trench leading to the sump pump.

May 2022
Pete and Dad built a new staircase to the basement after I learned Pete fell off the ladder to the basement, broke his collarbone, and didn't seek medical intervention!
