November-December 2016

As I was home photographing and and dropping drugs into eyeballs at my new job, Pete took an extended trip to the house. Charting his progress from afar, the work he completed was certainly a milestone. It's the first time something he has installed something structural into the house.

He worked on the back porch, the room that will eventually be our kitchen. We completed gutting this room in July of 2015.

The termite eaten joists were replaced with farm fresh 2 x 10s

Pete installed this vapor barrier plastic. It was recommended due to the earth being so close to the floor. It will keep away moisture and hopefully critters.

These cross braces were added for extra support.

A lovely plywood sub floor was installed!

This will eventually be our half bathroom. For less than the price of a half decaf caffe latte with Tibetan yak milk, Pete got this sink from you see here from Construction Junction. $5. bux.

After purchasing that sink, our next door neighbor gave Pete this pedestal sink.  I'm not sure which one we will install.

Even less glamorous is our toilet. Pete called me from Construction Junction, apparently teetering on the Is this disgusting? fence.
"Should I buy a used toilet?" He asked.
Everyone has different ideas of what they find disgusting, but it's a toilet. We all know what happens on/in a toilet, and we all use pre-used toilets regularly. There's always detergent and bleach to start fresh.

" Its $25.? How much is a new toilet at Loews?" I asked
"Around $140."He replied

I really don't like those quiet low flush models. When I flush I want to hear the water.  I think the quiet toilet was designed by someone who was embarrassed by their poop, which is just ridiculous.
Maybe I'm being too harsh here, but the person who prefers the quiet low flusher toilet probably buys these and these.

Above our new kitchen is a standard gable roof. We were considering doing this to our ceiling for about 8 seconds:
but I'm really not feeling that renovated barn look.
So Pete completed installing a sub floor to create a new attic space.

$190. got us a retractable attic ladder at Home Depot.

I know we have plenty of room already, but like a cardiac patient scarfing down a hot dog after bypass surgery, I'm experiencing gluttonous thrills about our new found square footage!

Our friend Craig came by to take photos with his new wide angle lens and to help out with the plywood attic sub floor. He was successful in making our creepy old house look even creepier!
Thank you, Craig!!

This photo is getting printed and framed, for certain!!

New acquisitions
The stars were aligned at Construction Junction for us. Every 10 minutes another photo was texted to me with "Should I buy this?" as the message.

This mirror frame, with what appears to be bracketed with lions heads, was $25.

Pete bought all of this beaded porch railing for $200.

We have more than enough. We can always use the extra for the new awning we will eventually build above the side door.

These may be called transoms or fanlights. Haven't decided if they are going on our porch or above interior doorways. $30. each.

This solid wood door will be our bathroom door $45.

Dumpster dive of the day
A sexy siren must have had her face inside of these trash chute pipes, calling "Pete...Pete...." he found them sticking out of a dumpster of a construction site. Our plastic trash chute has pretty much had it, so these are really a well timed find!!

Its just a fantasy, its not the real thing.......
I got really excited for a second when I found these doors selling for $380.

Reading the description and tying to find the location, I only saw terminology lik "basic script alpha and non alpha"  "end users" and "32 bit"

There's a really strange trend in gaming where players "buy" objects to furnish or build their "house" I guess I shouldn't really put "buy" in quotations, because as far as I can tell players use real money to essentially buy objects that don't exist in reality.

Please someone tell me I'm wrong about this.

This bird made a nest right next to our camera, she apparently thought the lens was going to dispense bird seed.

The gushing cat lady comes out in me when I watch this.

This was our first skunk sighting.

Our lawn must be pretty tasty.

Picture this........

Pete bought a basic CAD program to generate 3D plans for our kitchen and bathrooms. Not surprisingly, our red Elmira stove was not an option, but this provides a basic idea of our goals. I can now understand how people on those home renovation shows get excited when the designer puts these types of renderings under their noses.
